Objective of the project (native language):

L’obiettivo generale di questo piano è la validazione di strategie tecniche innovative e sostenibili che portino ad una riduzione degli apporti di inquinanti provenienti dalla gestione delle infestanti nel comparto delle coltivazioni delle orticole da industria e delle estensive nell’areale emiliano-romagnolo.
Verranno valutati dei percorsi tecnici per ridurre il ricorso al diserbo chimico quali l’impiego di cover crops e il diserbo meccanico; verrà valutata anche la possibilità di impiego di tecniche alternative all’aratura in funzione del grado di contenimento della flora infestante.

Objective of the project (in English):

The general objective of this plan is the validation of innovative and sustainable technical strategies that lead to a reduction in the contributions of pollutants from the management of weeds in the sector of industrial horticultural crops and arable crops in the Emilia-Romagna area.
Technical paths will be evaluated to reduce the use of chemical weeding such as the use of cover crops and mechanical weeding; the possibility of using alternative techniques to plowing will also be evaluated according to the degree of containment of the infesting flora.

1) Valutazione del grado di efficacia di diverse tipologie di cover crops a semina autunnale come mezzo agronomico di controllo della flora infestante su colture estensive a semina primaverile.
2) Valutazione del grado di efficacia di diverse tipologie di controllo meccanico della flora infestante su colture estensive e orticole da industria.
3) Definizione di linee tecniche sostenibili per la gestione delle infestanti costruite sulla base delle valutazioni di sostenibilità tecnica, economica ed ambientale delle diverse tecniche di controllo agronomiche e meccaniche.

1) Evaluation of the degree of effectiveness of different types of cover crops with autumn sowing as an agronomic means of controlling the weeds on arable spring sowing crops.
2) Evaluation of the degree of effectiveness of different types of mechanical control of the weeds on arable crops and horticultural crops for industry.
3) Definition of sustainable technical lines for the management of weeds built on the basis of the evaluations of technical, economic and environmental sustainability of the various agronomic and mechanical control techniques.

Short summary for practitioners (in English):

The results expected from the Project will concern the identification and validation of alternative technical paths to the use of synthetic herbicides alone in the control of weeds both in the pre-sowing and pre-emergence and in the post-emergence periods.
With regard to the pre-sowing periods, on the one hand the indications for an effective use of autumn sowing cover crops will be provided, on the other hand the operations of preparation of the seedbed will be evaluated as alternatives to the classic plowing (double layer processing) as a function of weed control.
In the post-emergency period, the focus will be on the control of weeds by mechanical means, in particular the technical indications will be provided for the control of narrow rows crops (e.g. wheat), and for wide rows crops (e.g. industrial tomato, corn, soybean, sunflower, sorghum).
The different technical paths of weed control will also be evaluated in terms of environmental and economic sustainability; this, together with the results and previous experiences of the working group, especially in organic farming, will allow us to provide guidelines for the application of sustainable techniques, both from a technical, environmental and economic point of view, for the management of weeds.

I risultati che ci si attende dal Progetto riguarderanno l’individuazione e la validazione di percorsi tecnici alternativi all’impiego dei soli erbicidi di sintesi nel controllo delle infestanti sia nelle epoche di pre-semina e pre-emergenza che in quelle di post-emergenza.
Per quanto riguarda le epoche di pre-semina, da un lato verranno fornite le indicazioni per un efficace impiego delle cover crops a semina autunnale, dall’altro si valuteranno le operazioni di preparazione del letto di semina alternative alla classica aratura (lavorazioni a doppio strato) in funzione del controllo delle infestanti.
In epoca di post-emergenza, l’attenzione verrà posta sul controllo delle infestanti con mezzi meccanici, in particolare verranno fornite le indicazioni tecniche per il controllo su colture a file strette (ad es. i cereali a paglia), e per le colture sarchiate a file larghe (ad es. pomodoro da industria, mais, soia, girasole, sorgo).
I diversi percorsi tecnici di controllo delle infestanti verranno valutati anche in termini di sostenibilità ambientale ed economica; ciò, unitamente ai risultati emersi e alle esperienze pregresse del gruppo di lavoro, soprattutto in agricoltura biologica, permetterà di fornire delle linee guida per l’applicazione di tecniche sostenibili, sia dal punto di vista tecnico che ambientale ed economico, per la gestione delle infestanti su colture di pieno campo in produzione integrata.
