L’obiettivo generale del progetto consiste nel verificare una gestione innovativa dell’interfilare della coltura di pero sotto il profilo agronomico, produttivo, fisiologico, manageriale e di salubrità aziendale, con il fine principale di mantenere alta la sostenibilità economica ed ambientale del frutteto riducendo il numero di trattamenti fungini e di fertilizzazione per preservare acqua e suolo.

Objective of the project (in English):

The general objective of the project is to verify an innovative management of the inter-row of pear crop from an agronomic, productive, physiological, managerial and business health point of view, with the main aim of maintaining high economic and environmental sustainability of the orchard by reducing the number of fungal and fertilization treatments to preserve water and soil.

Le Azioni del progetto prevedranno:
1- Confronto fra frutteti lavorati ed inerbimenti con essenze a base di leguminose per ridurre l’apporto di concimi minerali e proteggere il suolo
2- Valutazione fitosanitaria del frutteto attraverso misure dell’incidenza di maculatura bruna nei differenti trattamenti e dei residui nel suolo
3- Caratterizzazione del suolo con valutazione del contenuto di carbonio organico e dello scambio gassoso
4- Valutazione dell’impatto ambientale ed economico delle due tecniche agronomiche

Description of activities (in English):

The actions of the project will include:
1- Comparison between cultivated orchards and grassing with legume-based essences to reduce the contribution of mineral fertilizers and protect the soil
2- Phytosanitary evaluation of the orchard through measures of the incidence of brown spots in the different treatments and residues in the soil
3- Soil characterization with evaluation of organic carbon content and gas exchange
4- Evaluation of the environmental and economic impact of the two agronomic techniques

Short summary for practitioners (in English):

Modern management of the inter-row provides for a minimal alteration of the composition, structure and biodiversity of the soil to reduce degradation, erosion and compaction. Achieving these objectives requires constant grassing of the inter-row which can exert water-nutritional competition against the orchard and be a source of pathologies. It is in fact known that the presence of certain species of grasses and decaying residues favours the development of brown spores (Stemphylium vesicarium), the main adversity of the pear tree in the Mediterranean area, resulting in the need for numerous fungicide treatments. The creation of a turf of the inter-row with different broad-leaved essences would lead to a lower number of cuttings (economic advantage) and would create an unfavourable place for the development of the fungus as well as favouring the biological fixation of nitrogen in the case of legumes.
Specific objectives
• Reduction in the number of treatments for pear brown spots to preserve water quality
• Improvement of soil quality with an increase in organic carbon for a reduction in compaction and greater water retention
• Evaluation of the economic and environmental impact (LCA) of the new agronomic techniques proposed

La gestione moderna dell’interfilare prevede una minima alterazione della composizione, struttura e biodiversità del terreno per ridurne la degradazione, erosione e compattamento. Il raggiungimento di questi obiettivi prevede un inerbimento costante dell’interfilare che può esercitare nei confronti del frutteto una competizione idrica-nutrizionale ed essere fonte di patologie. È infatti noto che la presenza di determinate specie di graminacee e residui in decomposizione favorisce lo sviluppo di spore di maculatura bruna (Stemphylium vesicarium), principale avversità del pero nell’area mediterranea, con conseguente necessità di numerosi trattamenti anticrittogamici. La creazione di un cotico erboso dell’interfilare con differenti essenze a foglia larga porterebbe un numero inferiore di sfalci (vantaggio economico) e creerebbe un luogo sfavorevole allo sviluppo del fungo oltre a favorire alla fissazione biologica dell'azoto nel caso di leguminose.
Obiettivi specifici:
• Riduzione del numero di trattamenti per la maculatura bruna del pero per preservare la qualità delle acque
• Miglioramento della qualità del suolo con l’aumento del carbonio organico per una riduzione del compattamento ed una maggiore ritenzione idrica
• Valutazione dell’impatto economico e ambientale (LCA) delle nuove tecniche agronomiche proposte
